Other Bonsai places of interest in Japan

To do in JapanNeedless to say, there are literally hundreds of interesting Bonsai sights in Japan that are left uncovered in this section. Some of the most important ones will be covered briefly in this article. These include the world famous garden of master Masahiko Kimura near Omiya Bonsai village, the Bonsai area close to Osaka and the Taikan museum (owned by master Shinji Suzuki) in Obuse.

 

 

 

Bonsai master Masahiko Kimura, near Omiya

An artist that really needs no introduction. Master Kimura is one of the most honored Bonsai artists in Japan and multiple winner of the Prime Minister Award (the most prestigious award). His garden (relatively close to Omiya Bonsai village) is not open to the public unfortunately, visitors are either invited or welcome as part of a tour (like a day trip offered by j-bonsai.com).

Bonsai gardens, around Osaka

Fujikawa Kouka-en Nursery (by mr. Fujikawa) is located in Ikeda City, close to Osaka. The nursery opened in 1950 and several of its trees entered in the Kokufu-ten in Tokyo since then. Recently a Bonsai School was opened, where short-term classes/apprenticeships are offered. For more information check the website listed below.

Bonsai guesthouse Osaka 盆栽

Opened in 2010, this is a small guesthouse located in central Osaka. Has a nice collection of shohin trees on its rooftop and offers Bonsai tours in the area. See: www.bonsaiguesthouse.com

 

 

Bonsai garden of Shinji Suzuki / Bonsai Museum "Taikan", Obuse

The Taikan Bonsai Museum has a wonderful collection of Bonsai trees, masterpieces in fact. The museum belongs to Master Shinji Suzuki and is located in Obuse, close to Nagano and the famous Jigokudani Monkey Park.

Taisho-en nursery and Bonsai school (by Nobuichi Urushibata), Shizuoka

Taisho-en is a large sized Bonsai nursery, owned by Nobuichi Urushibata. The nursery also functions as a Bonsai school where up to four students can take Bonsai courses of up to 4 months.

Tokoname pottery tour, Tokoname

Tokoname is city famous for its high quality (bonsai) pottery and rich history. The city established a route around the area which takes about an hour to walk.

Seijyu-en Bonsai nurseries, Hiroshima area

Seijyu-en is a beautiful Bonsai nursery in Hiroshima, located close to Shin-Hiroshima (1 stop from downtown Hiroshima).
