Does someone here have good experiences with air layering oak? I have just been given permission to take an airlayer from a thick branch. I would like to know the best practice for oaks based on experience..

I have never heard of anyone doing it. It is worth a try, it may work. Obviously, it is the wrong time of year now, I will ask the master tonight when we have our meeting see what he says and let you know.
Geoff.
As bob already mentioned it is difficult to air layer the majority of Quercus ssp. Most are very difficult with the few that have seen success being merely difficult. It was my understanding until just today that air layering or rooting of almost any type was nigh on impossible for most Quercus. It appears that there have been some recent successes. I did a google search for "oak propagation cuttings" and found this pdf link with some success at it. From my former understanding and from the pdf it appears that you may be out of luck for your thick branch.
