Hi Everyone,

I hope you can help me. I've had my Podocarpus (from the pics I've seen here it does look like a Podocarpus - but by all means, correct me if I'm wrong - still new to this) for about 8 months now, and managed to keep it happy until about a month ago. As you can see on the pictures, it doesn't look good at all, and I have to admit I am a little lost here. I really wonder what the reason could be. I have kept watering it about twice a week, making sure the soil didn't get too dry, fed it once a month (followed the instructions I found here - attached a pic of the bonsai food I use) and kept it away from direct sunlight, but in a bright room. The temperature's dropped quite quickly over the last few weeks (harsh start to the winter here in the UK), and my appartment isn't heated in the daytime when I'm not in. Could this be the reason? What should I do to bring it back to a healthy buddy? Also, I happen to go away every now and then, and have brought it to a friend to be looked after. Only 5-10 min a journey, but could it have affected it? I was always very carefull when carrying it. Going forward, I'd like to know if there's any technique which would allow me to keep it in whilst away, and provide it with what it needs to stay in good shape. Any suggestion?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
P

You must not water to a schedule. Check every day and water when almost dry. Twice a week does not sound enough. It is lacking in light, and once heating is turned on then it will suffer lack of humidity too.
Once you learn how to water properly and give more sunlight then with luck it should recover. Forget the fertiliser until is back to health

sorry to bring bad news.. that is not looking bad. that is what a dead plant looks like. most likely dried out. probable the roots dried out while standing on a heater after which the rest dried out.

I think he/she meant "bony" or something (short for bonsai).

Hey, where did my reply go ??

Again:
"Not a happy bunny": British, slang) deeply dissatisfied or discontented

(and I'm not even British)

BTW: That is (or meanwhile: was...) not a Podocarpus.
