I find all pines tricky :). But Mugo not more than others.

Def agree with you. But everywhere there are stories of mugos that die, mugos that lose branches, mugos with needle disease etc. Baaaaaad reputation

They can tolerate quite a bit, but be carefull with repotting. they don't like messing with there roots to much.
i like the movment of the trunk on pic 4.

They like summer repotting right? I plan to repot it in summer 2018, maybe this season I will just add some draining mix at the bottom of his current pot. The movement is good, but we agree, pic 4 has the best visual impact. Nice taper, trunk not too straight, Jin in the back..that will be my front

It's winter here and my Mugo is almost all yellow. I've been told by senior members of my group, that it's a very healthy tree.
Hope this helps as far as the color of the needles.

We are having a cold winter here in Italy, maybe that's the reason for the color of the needles. Thank you simplysaid, nice to hear that from you, hope you're right!

Thank you tubaboy, I didn't know this cultivar. It could be it! I decided to wire it a little in the next couple of days. Let's see how it works

It is said, that the colder it gets, the more golden the needles become... I'm not sure if the needles turn green again.. or if the tree just grows new ones.

typically plants that turn color in winter, will become green again in spring. Actually a very exciting period as this can go quickly, starting with the branches that get most sun. So for a week or two you see a plant become green and alive again. Add to this the your growth and spring can really be exciting from the colours in your garden.

This winter has been really cold so far but I've seen that not all the plants from the same family react the same way. My Japanese White is still blue and green, while i've seen some from a local Bonsai Museum that are yellowish, both are outside and get the same light. Really interesting
