Def agree with you. But everywhere there are stories of mugos that die, mugos that lose branches, mugos with needle disease etc. Baaaaaad reputation

There is a mugo spieces called carstens wintergold that turns yellow in the winter.. I have one... I could only find info in German:

It is said, that the colder it gets, the more golden the needles become... I'm not sure if the needles turn green again.. or if the tree just grows new ones.

typically plants that turn color in winter, will become green again in spring. Actually a very exciting period as this can go quickly, starting with the branches that get most sun. So for a week or two you see a plant become green and alive again. Add to this the your growth and spring can really be exciting from the colours in your garden.

This winter has been really cold so far but I've seen that not all the plants from the same family react the same way. My Japanese White is still blue and green, while i've seen some from a local Bonsai Museum that are yellowish, both are outside and get the same light. Really interesting
