TOPIC: Growing moss

Growing moss 6 months 1 week ago #39822

Like probably many of us, I try to grow moss. This appeared to work pretty good:

1. A shallow tray
2. A layer of sand
3. Treebark chips on top

I did not even add moss or spores, the moss just started growing.

The result:

The moss not only grows on the treebark, but it spreads over the sand. It can easily be removed and that gives me nice clean, flat patches of moss, without soil. Example on the left of the tray.

You keep it full shade, half shade or full sun?

It was in full sun - but we haven't had many warm and sunny days yet.
I've harvested all the moss and the tray is now in the shadow - with some bits of moss that remained, so hopefully it will grow again.
I'll need a bigger tray though :)
