Hi, I was given a 7-year old Juniper tree as a gift and as I'm a novice at bonsai trimming, I think I might have over pruned it! I thought it already had a shape and I need to clip off most new growths.. Will it grow back and what should I do?

No you have not pruned too muc, possibly not enough. It is a very young plant, with no real style to it, but something to learn how to look after.

Thank you! So does it grow back soon? And I'm in spring now, should I wait until next spring?

It will not grow back at all.

The branches that are still there will continue to grow though.

Well this juniper is best pruned by pinching, not cutting.

And it will not grow back the branches you cut off. To me.. You pruned too much.

I would have let this plant grow. It's now a bit too young and thin to prune.

However, basically, it should NOT be pinched. Pruning is fine. Please do not give advise when you're a beginner yourself and apparently have not studied the techniques for junipers - and the difference between scale type and needle type junipers.

Also, it is not so that too much was pruned. There are still enough branches left. It was too soon to prune it though.

Thanks for all you replies!
I didn't cut any branches, just new green growths, it was very bushy.
So should I just wait until it's filled up again? Or what's the best thing to do?
