Could you please identify this tree, and do you think it's good bonsai material?

Not easy for sure. Giving info about locality might make it easier. Whear are you and the tree?

An oak, maybe Quercus Rubra. But that's a very, very wild guess.

Doesn't look very useful for bonsai.
