This is my newest addition!!

But thinking the pot should be changed..
I absolutely love this ficus.. it just screamed out to me when I saw it.. except the pot it's in..

And ideas..or advice..
Should I just leave it alone for a while?

You know this is a braided ficus, a decorative houseplant but not a bonsai, I hope?

well considering on this page it is considered "a ficus is great for beginners"...

But that did not answer my question about the pot situation... but thanks!

I think at some point you realize it is not the species that make a bonsai..

As for the pot.. If you are just starting out with bonsai I would recommend not doing anything. For now, focus on keeping this healthy.

An untrained (or a properly pre-trained) ficus, sure. Your ficus not so much. As LB said, it's not the species that makes a bonsai.

This for example is also a ficus - and absolutely no longer useful for bonsai.

(some may argue it can be cut down/rebuilt, but that's not really realistic)

Hi Shecounts,

That's a nice Ficus. I purchased a very very similar one a few months back and re-potted immediately because its original pot was also very unattractive. I have had no problems repotting mine straight away. I can see this isnt your first tree, so if you are comfortable and confident that you are able to keep your trees healthy then i would say - pot-away ! :)
