My wife bought me this bonsai about five years ago and all I've done is water it regularly. I kinda forgot that it was a bonsai and now I'm looking for tips on where to start with this plant if I want to get into the bonsai hobby.

The lowest leaves have also been yellowing and dropping consistently over the past month or so. I have never replanted this pot and the soil level has dropped a bit, so I'm thinking I need to re-pot it into the same pot with fresh soil.

This is a schefflera. As it is, it is just a regular houseplant. TO be honest, I have not seen anybody in a temperate climate grow schefflera into a bonsai. I would just keep it as a nice healthy plant.

Good to know. I think this was sold as a "Bonsai", but oh well. Would pruning be advisable, or should I just leave it be?
