Hi All.
I have a question regarding winter lighting if I may.. I fully understand the use of UV lighting, but was just wondering if anyone has ever used 'daylight bulbs' during this time of year or not. Im just curious as I am pondering over the idea.. What do others think?

You mean for an indoor tree? You don't have enough light indoors?

Yes. Sorry Oscar. I forgot to mention they are indoor Bonsai. Alas, the wife and I live near the east coast of the UK so during the winter it tends to get foggy more often than not, and the windows are not that big really.. Space is also a premium as the collection is getting close to 29 specimens now.. Hence the reason I asked about the 'daylight bulbs' and if anyone had ever used them with any success.

No sorry, I can't help you, but I've heard of it and it said it was a good way to give your bonsai enough light, but I don't use it.

There are shops that can supply decent lighting which would do the trick but you'll need to hunt one out.

Basic they are the same kind of lights which are more often than not used for cannabis cultovation :dry: . Do a search for grow shops in your local area. They do kick out a lot of heat and are equivalent to strong sun so you may need to be careful with your plants. A bit of trial and error may be required unfortunately

I don't know much about indoor bonsai or lighting requirements but I think your best and cheapest option would be a pet shop. You can get a starter gear which is the housing for a fish tank light and then as long as your pet shop sells reptiles they will offer various UV lighting tubes.

Daylight bulbs would be a good alternative if they work; I am also interested to find out if they work.

I'm wondering how you made out with your lighting situation and to offer another suggestion. Art supply stores have a great selection of adjustable lamps that clamp onto a table edge or window sill ledge. You can even get ones that have both the incadescent and irridescent bulbs that mimic sunlight. The larger, franchise stores are much cheaper and often have great sales.

I just read in another website (sorry, I can't remember where) who recommend additional artificial lighting for poor, indoor light conditions. They also suggested leaving the lights on for the plants overnight. Hope this helps. Please let us know how you are getting on with your plants.
