awsome pot ...did you make a fiberglass mold if not how did you get the rounded corners??? yes you would have to seal them the leaching acids would potentially kill anything in them. i would imagine any type of high quality cement sealer would work.great job

That is a great pot!! I have read that the scids will leach out of the pot after a year being left outside.

I just made a wooden mold. the rounded corners is from grinder/polisher
I bought for making concrete counter tops for my kitchen. It is like a angle grinder but has velcro diamond grit pads for it , also has a attachment for a water hose . With 50 grit pads it will take off the corners quickly , the best is when the concrete is still somewhat green.
I couldnt wait tho. I had a tree that needed a new pot so I took a chance
and planted it without any sealer. will see what happens..

i would seriously reconsider the sealing of the pot or at least lining it with plastic (poking the drain holes out of coarse) it would be a shame to kill that lovely holly

I think I will take your advice and line it with a bag. I would hate to kill that little holly. I made a couple more pots today, I like the idea of having all my trees in my own pots. Going to try some dye to color the cement on the next one

Awesome pot, great idea having all you collection in your own made pots. Could you make them out of something else rather than concrete? I know you definitely dont want to put an Azalea, Rhododendron or Camelia in those pots. But on the other hand there are trees that love Lime soils...
According to this wedsite Maples thrive in chalky lime soils...

I have only tried concrete so far , but I have tried different additives
in the mixture , the one in the picture has beach sand with alot of shell fragments in it..also added paper in it to lighten it up a bit.
I made a large pot yesterday with just concrete and small bits of granite added to it, but its quite heavy. should like good once I polish it tonite I can post a picture if you like..
