Good day everyone,
I could really use some advice on the styling of the bougainvillea that I have in a 100L Nursery bag.

I have difficulty deciding what to cut and what to leave, any suggestions?
The base is about 60cm in circumference.

Get a picture where the whole tree can be seen from multiple angles. Your pictures are too close.

In my opinion, it's not really going to be possible to make a bonsai out of that without leaving any massive scars.

Oh hey! I see you from South Africa! Welcome to bonsai empire by the way. You should look into getting some Celtis Africana's and Monkey thorn Acacia, they relatively easy to come by in nursaries and make great bonsai.

Thanks for the responses, and kind greetings.
I will take more pictures tomorrow.

I was thinking of making some deadwood, and potentially carving it. But that I can only do once its of a move-able size. Then I can probable take it to the club, we have a few very advanced members(and technologically challenged).

I have some Junipers, white stink woods, Cork-bark oak (Newly- planted saplings), Coral Trees, Trident maples, Australian Brush Cherries, a Baobab and some Wild Olives.

They are still young and work in progress. I will add some of them to my profile.

Nice, sounds good! And of course welcome to the site!

I see you got some huge material there, bougainvillea make beautiful bonsai, wish they grew also in our country, but they don't grow very good here (Holland).

Bigger photos of the whole tree would be great indeed, now you can't see the overal look of the tree and you can't make a 'design' for it. You can hide the big cuts and scars by making some deadwood with it, don't know how bougainvillea respond to it, but I have seen some bougainvillea bonsai with deadwood, so it should be possible! :)

Didn't know that dead wood would work on a bogan, wow you have some nice trees pieterbosch! I have very few trees as I only started bonsai at the beggining of this year, Im still in the process of trying to acquire as many stock trees and seedlings as possible, so In a few years time I will have some great trees I can be proud of. Whats your club called?

It's the Midway Bonsai Society. I also started in the beginning of this year. Can you believe it, I guess the Bonsai bug got hold of me good and proper. But I have always been into plants, I grew up in Sabie.

I will definitively take better Photos. Thanks for all the great responses.

You grew up in Sabie? I used to live and work in Shingwedzi, and had some fieldplots very close to your place!

The tree you showed has great potential! Show us some better pics of the whole tree and you'll get tonnes of ideas.

Hi All,
Here are some photos.
I Actually think that what I referred too as "the Back view" is what should be in front.
