here, i have the dwarf species of pomegranate. i bought it as a dense shrub from a nursery and pruned it back pretty to what is visible in the first and second picture. it took a while to bounce back, but now it has been growing pretty good.

im wondering, which direction i need to take it in for styling? should i remove two out of the three main branches, as seen in the middle photos? or, what should my next step be as far as training?

Such healthy growth, great! The trunk seems to be a bit 'boring' and straight; you might be able to bend it a bit, or opt for the broomstyle?

What's your thought on it? Deciding whether or not to remove two of the three trunks is a tricky one huh? :)

i know, im not quite sure what to do, but the three branches going up dont look good now. im not sure how flexible it will be for wiring, i haven't tried yet.

i decided to prune the branches shorter, and bend down the only branch that was pliable enough to do so.

Cool air layer! It looks like it's growing pretty well, so I'd try to start working on taper. Good luck!

what technique would be best to create taper? i was thinking of cutting a cone shape in the top of the trunk to create a broom style, but i have never done that before. or, would it be better to bring up one of the branches as the new apex?

Hi bbf!

Wow! Photo 3 of your update is wonderful! So healthy, full and bushy. Although I'm not experiened enough to have developed a vision for most tree styles, I have to agree with Oscar's suggestion of a *broom style*...it's seems perfect for that!

Great air layering too! I've never heard of cutting a cone shape at the top of trunk to create a taper...wouldn't that create dead wood? I'm not sure of this so it's better to leave that advice to the more experienced here on the forum. I'd definitely check into it before you cut it, tho. ;)

Good work! I look forward to following your progressions. Thanks for sharing!

i miss interoperated the pictures i've seen, it was actually supposed to be a "v" shape. i went ahead and did it and put that green wound glue on it, then wrapped it with a toilet paper roll and taped it. here are some photos of the process.
