Purchased this juniper today, a pre-bonsai. Trunk is massive... see lighter next to it for perspective.

Lagas Bonsai in Vught. We had our yearly trip there, today, with the club.
Yes, he has got more trees like this one - though I think this one was the one with the most massive trunk (relatively speaking). There are bigger trees with bigger trunks. This year he also had lots of massive Acer Campestre's - but they were far above my budget. Lots of Yamadori larches, very nice - but again, not within my budget.

My wife doesn't know yet. She'll return from work soon. Let's see if by that time I'm still so lucky :)

The tree had one big back branch that was broken half off. I already more or less decided to remove it - there's another branch that can take over its place. Guess I bumped it when I put it in my car, making the damage worse, so I cut it off.
So... that was the first one in the process of selecting branches. More to follow, but I'll take my time. Yes, I'll post updates, of course (that's why I posted this in 'progressions' :) )

Ha... Understood. I´ll withdraw my words and I´ll post Gandalf words... "Run, you fool" :woohoo:

Well, I´m prone to say that no big damage was done, since this tree seems to have a lot of good branches to be worked upon. So, good luck and yes, we´ll wait for further updates then ;)

Yep. It was labeled as a Juniperus x media 'Hetzii' - which (and I had to look that up) indeed appears to be synonymous with Juniperus virginiana 'Hetzii'.

No, I will use the foliage it already has.
