TOPIC: The shape's all wrong

The shape's all wrong 1 year 1 month ago #30843

Hi!
I've got this ficus bonsai and the shape's all wrong. I inherited it from a crazy person and I'm not sure what he was going for by having this long stalk. I was considering pruning the whole top half off to let the bottom leaves grow, but I'm not sure if that will kill the whole thing. Below are some photos. The red line is where I'm considering pruning. Any advice?

Katwalker (interesting username choice)
Anywho, that looks like an acceptable cut. It will slow your growth and take about 2 weeks before new growth appears. (Unless buds are already on the other branches). Watch how much you water it (A lot of people new to the forum end up over watering their "bonsai").
Please check out the care instructions here:
www.bonsaiempire.com/tree-species/ficus
Now this plant type is sold as bonsai but it really is a house plant. See the sub article in the above link: Acquisition of ficus ginseng Bonsai
Also here is a video we have been recommending. I hope this gets you interested in bonsai and I hope you can find better material in the future.
