Good evening all.
I'm intrigued as to how these plants are grafted.
I believe they have been mass produced to fool newbies like myself.
Fortunately, I only paid £5 each for my 5 plants.
Could I cut the grafted part at the top off of the root stock and try to see what grows afterwards?

You could Ayr layer the top and have 5 young ficus cuttings

Ginger knows this but was asking about taking the ficus off of the ginseng.

That's a good plan! So...shall I remove the ficus completely, split into 5 cuttings and plant?
What will the ginseng do, grow new branches etc?
Thanks

Hopefully the ginseng will die !!!! We hate them lol just kidding but it probably will die if you leave no leaves for it , I don't think it can back bud beyond the point of the graft but I'm not sure

Will not work.

Ginseng is the root of Benjamina. It does not represent tree trunk and very much lacks nebari. I personally own three of these and still puzzled what are my options to make it little closer to bonsai. So far, nothing. At least, I picked up ones with Ginseng root that could look a bit like trunk but yours, from what I see are total off. Dont waste time here, you better pick up something that can get into bonsai. I personally now look for Religiosa but have to figure how to obtain one as they dont sell this in my country.

I'm advising him to keep the top not the bottom :)
