Hi, Newbie here and trying to post for the first time. There might be similar posts from me because the Captcha box keeps going back to red.

I have a Bonsai Kit from amazon that has a Ficus Religiosa seed pod. Their video says to plant the whole pod. Every other video I have seen cuts open the pod to remove seeds. Can anyone verify that I should plant the entire acorn looking pod? Any reply is appreciated because I am clueless.
Thanks, Al K.

Figs make large fruit. The individual seeds are sandgrain or smaller.
I would never plant the whole fruit; Ficus is a light-sensitive germination species, afaik.

I think we may have possibly purchased the same kit. I planted the full pod and that was a few months back.

@ both with "bonsai kits": i do hope you realize there will not grow bonsai out of these seeds but normal trees?
@RootedGrowth: do i see a juniper in one of these pics? If so, it will die if you keep it inside

Thank you for the reply. I will try to post a picture of the pod. It is not a fig like the ones you eat, but more a hard shelled acorn like pod.

Thank you Rooted Growth. It seemed very odd that all the other Ficus had small seeds and this was a huge one. Yes I realize that the seed produces a normal plant. The challenge is for us to make it into something different.

I would like to thank all for their help. I am sure I will be back with more questions. Al K.

Hi, That is why I was asking about the "acorn". Is that a pod that has seeds inside, or just one big seed. I guess in a year or two when the plant is recognizable we will know. It was odd that the other seed packs had 15 to 20 seeds in them and the ficus just the acorn. I was tempted to crack it open and see if seeds were inside, but the distributor had a video that showed them sowing just the acorn. We will see. I will attach the acorn again.

the singular seed you show, is not from a ficus.

It is not a seedpod. It is a singular seed, afaict

This will be interesting when it matures. Maybe I will order some Ficus seeds. Where is a reputable place to get them from? I do not need any more mystery plants.
