This is what it should look like. The seeds in this package could at least be ficus seed.

Hi all, It looks like Leatherback has found the answer. Afzelia africana sure appears to be the species of these seeds. The huge pod is exactly what we received. Lesson learned. Even the seed distributors don't know what they are selling. So instead of Ficus Religiosa for a bonsai project, we end up with an African Mahogany. Anybody ever seen one of these as a bonsai?

Buyer beware.

Most of the pictures on the internet are of lumber, but the few trees looked promising. Unfortunately probably nobody has experience with these so you may have to do some research to see what its environmental needs are.

Good luck.

Appears to be similar to a tropical tree like a ficus as far as care goes, but I guess we will see.

It's leaves are very very big, so it very unlikely, not saying it's impossible, but big leaf trees goes for macro bonsai...

Yes, but those are more used to make those braided trees...
I'm growing two large-leafed species atm, got some Flamboyants and 2 Guava trees, and the plan is to make them about a meter tall, so it can have some proportion...
Bigger the leaf, bigger the bonsai.

Check out this mahogany tree from Master Ladoso...

Nice tree! But also an evidence that you could mKe a good tree without the classic proportional rules.
Leaves are still too big compared to the tree.
Too high compared to trunk size.
Too deap pot

:)

Yes Tropfrog! I should had mentioned that his tree still on training stage, planted on a basin.
But yes, I love how Master Ladoso does his trees, and some times chooses unusual species...
