Hi guys,

I have been trying to root some cutting for absolute ages now. I tried itiogawa, standard juniper and have tried lots of blaauw junipers, I am struggling!
I have not been successful yet. I used vermiculite and standard organic soil mix in a propogator, with a large dome like lid. Used heel cuttings too. It's just not happening, they are not rooting. I've also used rooting powder.
What tips and tricks do you guys use for cuttings? Especially with junipers?

How long are you giving them? For me they root fine in typically 6 months. I just put cuttings in a tray that i put out of the sun outside, or stick them between plants in the garden.

I took a few cuttings last year (late summer) and stick them in a pot. Out of about 10, 7 are growing this year. I keep them outside.

Hi Guys,

Sorry i was uploading pictures through my phone.

Here are the finished cuttings from February.
I don't know what i'm doing wrong i've kept them behind a large pot so it's not in direct sunlight.
I wish i could make junipers root. It just is not happening for me :/

Junipers need to bee outside. Always. So also when you are propagating. There is absolutely no need for a mini greenhouse. Just put them tightly together (I have the cuttings touch on all sides when I put them in a container) and put them somewhere without too much direct sunlight. Just early morning/late evening I suppose. Leave them alone for 6 months. Do not water too much (As you know, junpers like the substrate on the dry side). And they should strike quite easily.

Not sure whether these will still catch though, but you can try.If your propagator has drainage holes, you could take the lid off, and put the whole thing like that outside.

Hi leatherback,

yeah they were just inside for pictures and have always been outside. I just have heavy rain here so I don't have shelter so I keep the lid with a slide vent to keep humidity up. Same effect as a greenhouse?
I put them behind a large planter so it's fairly shady. the meatier cuttings are keeping their colour and shape.
I've watered very sparingly and kept the substrate on the drier side.

I hope they do catch as I have put lots of effort into them. I might try sand to help and a terracotta tray for next time and see if that works. I took the cutting in mid Febuary so i should hope there is a chance. Like i said i just take my pictures indoors ( the picture was taken in mid Feb)
Thanks, is there anything else you can suggest?

I would not expect cuttings taken in februari to have roots now. Those that I stuck in fall (October) are now slowly starting to root.
