Ay ay ay! leatherback!
You told me to do ficus...and I planted ficus...and grew the cuttings...and made attempt at fusion...just to discover...it must be a deciduous tree...
Where do I get deciduous tree in Africa? We dont have winter...and decidouous trees dont grow here...they need cold rest period.
O my O my...!!!!
It is not much anyway I did...so I will post it for fun...but I know I will be disqualified.

Hey Neli,

I think Oscar will allow you to use ficus. I am not sure whether all ficus are evergreen :(

Oscar?

He he he! I think all ficus are evergreen but thank you for the kind words...I still have time... little bit of time...to look for something deciduous and root it...will try tomorrow...Only problem I see, our winter (a bit of cold +10C lowest and slow growth..and cutting rooting hard) is coming just now.

Hi All,

i am new to this forum and came across this competition. It seems really interesting and definitely something i want to enter but it seems i ahve a bit of a late start so i have a few questions:

1. is it indeed to late in the season to start this project? I live in San Diego and our "winter" has long ended and many of the trees around me have already begun to put on their leaves.

2. If anyone knows the San Diego Area, where would be a good place to get seedlings? Alternatively, where online can I buy them? (I would love to grow them myself but i am a grad student and so i move around a lot! no place to plant in the ground). I know a there are some shipping restrictions on California so this might not be a viable option.

Thanks for any answers and even if it is too late, I'm looking forward to seeing the submissions!

looks awesome but in their catalog they have a $500 minimum order which is quite a bit more than I want to spend on trees right now. Did I understand this part wrong and if not, are there alternative places to order from?

Another good online source for seedlings is International Bonsai. Check out their seedlings here: www.internationalbonsai.com/page/1442817

Awesome, much better. I think i am going to try this out with trident maples. I have never done anything with them (but that is the case with almost all species) and from what i have read, they grow relatively fast and heal pretty well. Anyone have any advice on using them?
