Yebo, spring is the right time to collect, i however collected in May this year i live in South Africa and its still quite cold here in May so i duno hey, i went with my friends and the bonsai club so i presume its also an alright time of year to go for it.

Guys i have a question, i have not seen any new growth on my tree yet, im very impatient with it haha. What i am wondering is does a plant have to be covered all over the base for it to produce roots? Because i think this tree might be a little shallow in this pot. You will see in this photo

No the plant does not have to be covered all over the base, because the roots that aren't covered here are the nebari (exposed roots above the soil) and the other smaller roots are beneath the soil (I guess if I see it on the picture) so it should be alright. Maybe wait a little longer?

It's a great tree, I like the olive's for their stunning bark!

Don't worry too much; In spring I brought our Olive tree out too early. It received a nice doce of early-spring night frost, and lost all the leaves. It took 5 months to recover, and only in late summer it started growing again. These plants are quite hardy, but are slow growers, and need time.

The key in our case was water: When I started watering the plant every day, all of the sudden new grow popped out.

I agree with Youri...the way you have this potted is just fine! Remember that practicing Bonsai is about learning patience and, if a particular tree is a slow grower in nature, then you will need even more patience. However, you patience will be rewarded! Gosh, I luv this tree!!!
