LucR, I am living in flat on the 2nd floor and we don't have any garden at our flat ( like a community garden). I am a bit scared that people might take the bonsai tree or damage it when its outside. If we had a private garden then it would have been ideal, but unfortunately not in this case.

Hello Pierre.
Have you considered looking into getting a Ficus or Carmona?
Both are better suited to indoor conditions compared to the Chinese Elm.
Just a thought.

... another thought: ficus I can understand... but carmona is notoriously difficult, certainly for beginners.

When is it the best time to add some moss around my Bonsai tree? would it effect the growth of the tree. Regarding the Ficus, I haven't seen any fiscus trees in my local nursery.

According to Bonsai Empire, There is a photo show the popular indoor bonsai trees, Ficus, another one ( name that I can't remember) and the chinese elm tree.

Hi there , I have attached 2 pictures of my instruction card that I got with my Bonsai. It says Zelkova Guaranteed real Bonsai. ( sorry for it being a bit dirty, grabbed it out my dustbin). So is my tree a Chinese elm or Japanese Elm, if the tree is a Chinese Elm then why do I have Zelkova card then, this is the bit that confuses me?

They are often labelled wrong but trust me, they need exactly the same care: outside!!!!

And what if I don't have access to a garden, cause I live in a flat on the 2nd floor.

Long story short: Either they lied or they have no idea what they are talking about. But.. You can verify yourself. Go to a website about Zelkova (And not, not bonsai, just zelkova serrata) and compare the leaves. Then do the same thing for ulmus parviflora.

As for the "Guaranteed real bonsai".. There is some discussion possible too.
