anyways willows are amazing at their rooting ability. i was amazed to find they are leaps and bounds over ficus. i am planning to see just how large of a branch can be rooted this spring to kind of speed up the "finished " look. it has been a chore finding thicker branches with a good amount of taper tho

You could of course create branches with taper whil on the tree, by chopping a thick one, and leving a smaller branch to grow out for the searon. Chop again, and the year after you would have a decent taper, and can do the air layer.
Good idea leatherback, I can't wait to start airlayering again. In a week or two I will post that thing I promised on how to get good taper from ficus cuttings, I need to take some clear pics of it.
And apologies drifter, I definitely seem to have offended you in the other topic you posted. I did not mean to anger you or portray you in any bad light, I was trying to understand more about what your aim was in the post.
actually i have started already. i have a willow that blew down in a storm and have been redeveloping it into a tree (30 foot tree now 5 foot stumps) and have been expieramenting. i have one branch that grew weird and has a 2/1/2 inch base and a foot in length the base just grew fat really quick, and i am testing some branch braiding. the species is a "giant pussywillow" it has flowers bigger than your thumb, unless you have an anusually large one and has larger oval leaves also

i dont think it was you that sparked drifters rage he portraid himself in a bad light not you. you asked a legitamate question and the dude went nuts...
cool name hahaha, how on earth did that come about? I sometimes wish I had a huge garden with tonnes of different plants to propagate from.. My current garden means I end up with me having to drive around with a friend looking for ficus and willow trees to take cuttings...Probably more fun tho
Tnx manofthetrees, I got a bit worried when I checked his reply
