LOL that was too easy... you may need to srape off the bark on the ajoining trunks to get them to fuse, but im not positive

i do know one thing ,whatever you do it will still look like thyme

The main concern I would have with thyme is that the trunk does not swell so much over a season. I think that fusion will take a long time to reach.

If it's never been attempted and sounds impossible then I'm game.

I'll have to buy a bunch of seeds and once they've germinated I'll begin the process. I'll start next spring, but in the meantime I'm going to research the technique further.

Just to keep you posted± We are in the process of setting up the competition, which will probably open around December.

Ive been thinking about the competition and Im not gona spend a whole lot of money buying up to 40 seedlings to make one tree. Plants aren't that cheap where i live. So instead im going to grow as many seeds as I can now and will have to do with what I have in December.

MWid: look at mailorder 'bare root' 'forestry' material. A lot of growers will sell bundles of say 50 acers, 1-2 years old, bare rooted for as little as 50cts per plant. Offers typically start mid-winter.

Have a look at

I feel a bit silly asking but what is bare root material? I've never heard of the term. It still seems a bit pricey and will have to ship.
