@leatherback I am going to attend a bonsai training class every last Saturday of the month for 2 hours at a time. At the 30th July I will attend a proper bonsai training day for the whole day.

I know almost all my trees is still far away from proper bonsai trees, but it going to learn me more on how to develop and train a tree to become a bonsai tree.

I've added two new bonsai trees to my collection.

My new Monkey (Senegalia(Acacia) galpinii)


This Monkey Thorn got a stunning trunk


This is my new Wild fig(Ficus thonningii)

I dig the fig. If you ever feel like letting it go, let me know.

Root base on the other is kinda weird, though it may work with a bit of detailed carving. Hard to say.

Hi Gekkie, your bonsai trees looking good and healthy, looking forward to your creation. YouTube is a good place to be inspired, my favour Graham Potter and Ryan Neil, the giving really good advise to learn from. Welcome to the forum and keep the pictures and progress coming.

Over the weekend I got another 3 bonsai trees.

This is a wild olive(Olea europaea subsp. africana) 9 years old


This is a Juniper procumbens. 10 years old


This is a Fire thorn(Pyracantha orange CH 10 years old

The parent plant was probably 10 years old. I doubt this cutting is 10 years old.

it definitely looks more like a procumbens nana than a procumbens. Where are you buying your plants Gekkie?

Below, procumbens nana. $12 at Nursery, maybe 5-7 years old?


Below, procumbens, $24 at nursery. Notice the different foliage, plus thickness of trunk. Of course this plant is probably older than the nana. But the nana is the dwarf version of the japanase juniper, or "Procumbens".
