im wondering the same, or ive been a very lucky guy when repotting and root trimming :pinch:

If you cut away some roots when you move it to a new pot, you also need to remove the same percentage leaves.


This is just a myth, isn't it?


One of my early books said the roots and leaves have to be in balance. Cutting roots back will starve leaves so you should reduce leaves, too, etc.

I don't remember what book that was.

as far as I know, there is no need.

That being said.. If I do a maple repot in mid-summer, I do tend to prune the tree a few days beforehand. And I might pulll out a few leaves too and place it out of the sun for a bit. So mid-summer repots I am slightly more carefull then a winter no-leaf repot.
