I've recieved a lovely looking bonsai tree for christmas. I've been reading around and just can't work out which type it is.
Could anyone help me with the basic start up guide?
Much love

I think a close up of the leaves would be better. The definite thing i can tell is that it is not bonsai (sorry man) but is mallsai-commercialized bonsai-basically a tree in a pot that is called bonsai. So commercialized that no art has been taken into acount. But it still is a nice tree. We need a closer pic of the leaves. ;) .

Hi there and Merry Christmas to you too and to everybody in this forum.

Well, answering your previous question... I'm pretty sure that's a ficus. Care guide you will find it in this site under the ID my Tree section.

Thank you to the both of you. Sad state of affairs if it isn't actually a bonsai tree.. Non the less a good project to get my teeth sunk into.
I'll attach another photo with the closer look at the leaf.

From what i can tell it is a chinese elm. Although a close up of like one or two leaves would be awesome -sorry.

Don't you worry now whether it is a bonsai or not. I believe right now is a good starting material and as first things go first, I think taking good care of your tree and keeping it thriving should be of main interest. You'll have time enough to learn step by step the rules and aesthetics of the bonsai art.

Oh, and yes... It is an awesome site indeed ;)
