Hello all,

I bought a juniper and a Acer palmatum shaina from a garden center. My location is Karlsruhe, Germany. Im gonna keep them in south facing balcony. Can I start anything right now (repotting, creation pruning, wiring etc.)? I have read on the website about nursery prebonsais and as it says late summer is not good for those things but still maybe things change from species to species( like wiring maples in winter, but I cant wire this winter if I cant prune it for creation now ofc). If not now, what is the calender for both species.

Thanks a lot!

A garden center does not sell pre-bonsai. What you have purchased are nursery plants.

Look up the species, top of the page under 'tree species' for information about how to take care for them.
There are many other sites explaining when to do what. Google it.

To develop your plants into pre-bonsai, you will need to grow a decent trunk.
Here's are some good starting points:

Thanks for response Auk!

Sorry for my misusage of the term, I am quite new to Bonsai. My only experience is with a bird plum which I purchased 9 months ago. But ofcourse one was not enough and I decided to improve my bonsai collection as fast as possible. But I think because of the season the best way for it to buy an already established bonsai. Otherwise I have to wait till spring for any plant I purchase right now. Right? Is there any advantage of buying nursery plants right now? I mean can I do anything to prepare them for early spring( when I can start working with them) or waiting till early spring and then buying them makes no difference?

Again thanks for the links, I will dig deeply into this site for sure!
