I have a new and very young fukien tea tree...I bought it and nurtured it through the winter. I have yet to repot it and use some quality substrate ( it is still in the garden center soil which I know is subpar). However, it is spring and starting to really grow new leaves/shoots. Should I repot? Or let it be until next season?

Best Questions to ask are the following:
  • Does the plant look healthy? if no, repot.
  • Is it root bound? if yes, repot.
  • Does the soil drain well for my type of plant? If no, Repot.

this is the chinese elm that i think needs repotting after a winter's rest and defoliation. in the first half of april it has really come back to life!. is it too late to repot now? also i am including a photo of the container with the existing soil. if it is too late to repot when would you advise me to do the repotting and root pruning.

The pics didnt work. If its coming back to life, i would let it be for now, let it grow and recover. root pruning will greatly weaken the tree. Its not too late, but unless its severely root bound, leave it be and repot early next spring.
