Morning all.
Here's a lot I made yesterday with air drying clay.
I made 2 and the clay was only £3.75.
What do you reckon?

I like it. Better than what I managed to create when our club organized a pot-making day (which was still fun. There should be pics of my pots on the forum somewhere). It looks hand-made - which is a good thing. Must be nice to have your own trees in your own pots, making the whole more your 'own'.

Just wondering if this air drying clay will tolerate low temperatures? Is it suitable for outdoors?

Thanks Auk and nice to see you back!
This air drying clay is new to me so I'll have to wait and see. I'm also going to paint it with acrylic paint so that should seal it nicely.
I'll probably put my Serissa in it indoors anyway.
I'm well pleased with it and have made another today.

Tried to look that up (I don't know much about the different types of clay) but this too is not an easy subject!
Is it water proof, or is that why you'll paint them?

newclaynews.blogspot.nl/2009/10/about-air-dry-clay.html

At least you know how to shape it. Do you intend to use other material in the future, like baked clay - which I guess would be more suitable for pots?
What material did you use? Seems there are different types of air-dry clay. Wondering if I should give it a try :)

I suggest you put some soil in it ( without the plant) and keep it wet for a week or so to see if it does any damage to the pot , so you avoid having to emergency repot one of your trees in case it crumbles or something ;)

It will be water proofed when painted with acrylics.
I'd give it a go Auk.

Why not. The clay isn't expensive. Just need to find the right kind.

BTW the pots I made at the club are in this topic:
