Hi guys,
So my neighbor has a few crabapple trees in their front yard and I noticed a new shoot coming off of the old wood on one of the trees. I was wondering what would be better, whether to air layer it or to take cuttings from it. There are a few branches coming off of it, so I could just take a few of those. It is a pretty tall shoot its about 5ft tall from the base where it is connected to the tree to the tip of the leader. I am also wondering when is the best time to take a cutting or make an air layer on a crabapple tree, it is late winter early spring here in Michigan. I don't know if the weather, since it is a little cold still would have any effect if I air layered.

Thanks,

airlayering will work. late spring is the best time, the tree needs leaves to do an airlayer.
