Making a Juniper Bonsai

In this blog post we'll show how to create a Bonsai from interesting Bonsai nursery stock material.

In the progression video below we explain how to create an interesting Bonsai out of imported material. The tree was purchased for around USD 150, a reasonable price considering its age (about 12 years) and the fact that the tree has been shaped and prepared for bonsai purposes.

The Juniper, a Kishu variety, was originally grown from a cutting. Before we started work on it, the tree had been wired and then left to grow thicker over time.

In the video, we show how to prune and wire the tree, and we also repot it six months later. By splitting up the work on the tree over time, we keep the momentum of the tree strong and actually reduce the time it needs to become a bonsai. After its repotting the tree won't be styled until the next fall, or even the nex spring (exactly one year later). We'll keep you posted on our site and YouTube channel!
