The 45th Taikanten Bonsai Show in Kyoto, held every year at the prestigious Kyoto International Exhibition Hall, was a standout event for the bonsai community. Known as one of Japan's premier bonsai exhibitions, the show presents a wide variety of trees, styles, and award-winning masterpieces.
The exhibition featured a wide range of bonsai trees, from old pines to delicate maples, representing different styles and techniques. Visitors also had the chance to see bonsai master Kunio Kobayashi demonstrate his skills (video soon on our YouTube channel).
Taikan-ten video
The 45th Taikanten Bonsai Show also displays of award-winning trees, many of which were passed down through generations, and an impressive collection of old Bonsai pots. The trees, some over a century old, demonstrated the longevity and patience involved in bonsai cultivation. The show’s location in Kyoto added to the experience, as the city’s deep connection to Japanese traditions provided a fitting backdrop for the exhibition. Another great feature of the Taikanten is its timing; late november marks the height of fall colors in Kyoto - a great time to visit Japan as well as to see deciduous Bonsai with fall colors!
