Hi. Advice plse. Iv a new pine. I've cut all clutter from with in. Most the easy to pick straightbranches. Removed the centre pine cone ends. Tree does look a lot better.
Couple questions regarding scotts pines...
I can I cut the long pines in half to make them look smaller? Or will they die.
2.. whens the best time to wire it. Plse
Thanks Paul

Add picture so we know what youre talking about.
I have two scot pines. You can cut needles to shorten them, but only when they hardened (darken in color and become harder - November in EU where I live). But this is not the proper way to shorten them. Scot pines have 2 or 3 stints of needles growth during growth season. Just before the last stint (end August) you cut the previous growth leaving just 5 needle pairs on each new branch. When the new growth will emerge it will be already close to the end of the growth season so the needles will not have time to grow long, so they will be naturally shorter. Needles to say you do this only on already developed and healthy trees, that why we need pictures.
