Chinese Elm (Ulmus parvifolia) cuttings dried out. was created by Caleb

Posted 5 years 10 months ago #41585
I pruned my Chinese elm and am trying to root the cuttings I looked at a few different videos and read up on it and used a rooting powder but almost the very next day all the leaves on every cutting was dry, it's been almost two weeks and they're still dry, there's not much discoloration but anyway my question is, is that normal or should I give up on them having a chance to root. Everything I saw said it was pretty easy to propagate Chinese elm from cuttings.
Thanks for any help!

They should not have dropped their leaves. So you did something wrong. :)

Did you shield the cuttings from drying out, like place them under a mister, or in a small greenhouse / under some plastic foil?

Well the leaves aren't dropping they're just dry. I didn't cover them, but I've kept them out of the sun and I have misted them.

If the plants are dead, the leaves attached for longer time. If they living, they “detach” the problematic leaves sooner. Just observe a broken tree branch with foliage on it.

Here are six cuttings what I did a week ago.
One was dead in the second day (leaves completely dry) and an other one is dying from the second day (all but one leaf). The remaining 4 are fine.
