Stainless steel, aluminium, brass, copper, zink, …
What metals are considered safe screws and staples?

Safe in which sense? I would use stainless steel if you are trying to fix a window.

What the hell happened to the part of my question about bonsai? Did I omit it by mistake? I am happy to see that some members have a good sense of humour but this thread is supposed to be about approach grafting. I don't want to go through all of the trouble and work of carving and stapling/screwing the branches into place ..... and end up killing the tree.

Are you sure? I've heard that copper will kill it.

Wrapping your arms around a woman is harmless. Without penetration, no crime has been committed.

I would say a lot of woman disagree, however I fail to see the reasoning.

Wiring a branch does not penetrate the phloem or cambium as a screw or staple would. If there are any dangerous elements to copper (IF there are any) then the difference between wrapping and puncturing are obvious.
