Hi, I purchased a Picea G]auca 'Rainbow's End' in the hope of creating my first bonsai.

Someone has told me that the branches and trunks are two soft to take to wiring and therefore bounce back when the wire is removed

Is this correct? Have I purchased the wrong spruce to give it a go with? Hopefully you guys can advise.

Picea in general has very flexible wood and it will take a few years for branches to set. This is in relation to natural growing conditions, where branches might be weighed down several months a year by snow, and pop back up once weather improves.

As LB say this is a feature of Picea. By experience I have come to understand that they need some serious bending to stay in place. All rules that aply to other species do not work on picea.

Just go hard on it. When you are thinking "Daml, I broke that branch". It msy settle or die.
