Hi there

Can anyone give me some advice, what should i do with this loropetalum?

I recently bought it and i haven’t done any work on it yet.

It has lost some leaves, on the inner branches.

What do you think i should do with the tree?

Thanks in advance!:)

Well.. Maybe you can tell us first why you bought it. You must have some idea which direction you want to take this, or else you would not have bought it. Right?

For sure, you need to fix the stump on the trunk.

Thanks for your answer!

My idea when i bought it was to make a broom style bonsai.

Is it possible to make that style and what should i do with the branches thats missing the inner leaves?

I’ll fix the stump on the trunk.

So.. What are the characteristics that makes you think this is the best style for this species, and this specific tree?

understand. But the only way to learn is to gain understanding. Which is why I am asking you, what makes you come to the style that you have choosen. That way, you learn how to come to a style. The why is often more important than the what.

I understanded right away, why you asked me and thank you for that.

So, do you think the shakan style is best for this tree?

Do you have a answer why it lost its leaves on the inner branches and what i can do in the future to prevent that?

Thanks in advance :)

I think I would go for an informal upricht.

getting foliage is typically a matter of trimming. I do not know this species however. So chec what temperatures it can deal with. If typically -10, consider protection from -5 onwarsds.Trees in pots are more sensistive than those in the ground.
