I collected this trees / shrubs on a small island while kayking the south west coast of British Columbia , they are a low lying shrub mostly over rocky exposed areas, some small redish berries. the bark is paper like and sheds easly , the branchs lay on the ground sending out roots where they touch the dirt. I thought they may be in the sala family but the leave are quite small, anyone help me identify these .

the leaf groupings in the first pic look almost like a rhodadendrum ,they have flakey bark when older but they don't produce berries so i really do not know.quite a spectacular find can't beleive the aged look they have

very cool, they have edible berries, you can make tea from the stems, leaves and roots very medicinal.they have to be ancient to have such large trunks. love the one in the second pic

thanks. I read that also ..funny my wife couldnt give my bonsai a second look , but she owns a health food store and when I told her about these new bearberry trees I found, her eyes widened.. If I see some branches cut off I know where to look.
