I would say this a Carmona (Fukien Tea) tree.

I wouldn´t concern too much about the moss. In any case I would rather worry about the awful conditions of this tree´s substrate.

It is a carmona. It is not "a kind of bonsai tree". It is a specific plant species. And not a bonsai yet. Read up a bit on bonsai and you will learn that bonsai is an artform, which can be applied to tree specis.

The basics on Soil Mixes:

Now, do keep in mind that timing is very important on Bonsai. I´m not sure at all if now would be a good time to perform an emergency transplant on your Carmona. In any case I suppose you can´t do any worst to your tree and you might take your chances and get away with it. Also, be aware of that there is NO standard recipe for soils... That´s a long debated issue in every forum and everyone might have something to say about it. However, the basic requirements that a substrate or soil mix must meet to keep a tree healthy are a standard indeed...

Ha... Indeed!!!

Fair point, you are right Ironhorse... Still, sometimes I´m reluctant to perform such transplants on fall time. Normally I like the trees to heal themselves as fast as possible from this stress. That is why I usually prefer spring time to do these tasks. However, in this case, I believe you have the edge
