Hi, newbie here. Apart from a selection of random bonsai type plant experiments - I have been bought an Ulmus Mallsai as a present from my family which qualifies me for this challenge. Being a complete newbie with no skill does not qualify me but hey ho...

Picture one - the plant. As you can see i have had a head start. Arrived almost dead by mail order. Was worried re-potting would kill it so piled on some decent soil and covered in moss from under garden bench, hides the hideous exposed root mess.... Just fed and watered it and moved it to different spots until resuscitated and started to look healthy.
Picture two - genuine actual rust wire marks in several places, and you can see I have now started to cut back and try to find some shape with wire. Lump of Plasticine where I have tried to remove a big flat part where it had been cut. I tried to shape it with a stanley knife and stopped when I cut my finger so may not be much better... have since treated myself to some used tools on ebay so will prob have to tackle again next year...
Main annoying negative - it did have a branch filling the big space on the left, but I ... erm... cut it off by mistake... chances of a branch growing exactly where I want it to..? hmmm....
Overall, it will always have the odd right angle Z shape, unless I cut off and make the first branch the trunk,,, but for now I just plan on making it the best it can be :)

Welcome ^^ I have the similar “charme” in the trunk of my challenge tree, and still didn’t figured out if I can use this movement, or no way.

Momentanement charmant comme une ongle incarnée.
I wont chop there. I think too many of us will try the same, cause.. that’s the best what you could do in a long way. So I try to figure out something else :)

Saying "Welcome" too. And.. Probably.. Felidae and I will come up with the same solution to the trunk challenge, showing how non-original we both in reality are then :).

That would be a surprising script :) And when we reveal during an update, we realize we did the same and try to modify the design.. in the same way. Just once or twice, and everyone’s trees will be way ahead on development..
