pretty excited to finally see the smooth beautiful bark coming in on my crepe myrtle. downside is i didn't get any flowering this summer.

so the myrtle has been happy this spring and pushed out some good growth. Heres a picture before the pruning i did. ill get more pictures after pruning once i get home today.

If you prune it strongly before flowering it will not bloom...

so after blooming and now that autumn has approached i went ahead and did the last pruning of the year. I'm really happy how the canopy is turning out. i just cant seem to figure out how to make the small left trunk develop. i get fine branches grow one season and by the next they die and grow a new set never seem to develop. pics from this growing season.

Keep the rest of the canopy in check. Even consider defoliation halfway through spring. And next repot, move the tree to the other side of the pot, giving the roots more room.

when i first purchased this tree it had some nasty scares as you can see below. i haven't worked on them cause i simply just didn't know how to even start or what to do. Now that the tree is developing nicely i want to start healing some scares. the scares pictured below are of my main concern as they are very noticeable. any hard pruning ive done i have applied cut past and within less than a year they completely heal over you can see a healing scare in the first photo. my plan is and please correct me if im wrong to grind or sand down the scare so its flat and apply some cut past on it in hopes it will still heal over.as you can see the wood in the center of the scares is bulging so i would think i need to grind or sand it so its flat?

I would use a power micro tool to grind them to a nice shape. Then I would carefully cut around the edges of the bark with a scalpel and cover all with good quality cut paste.
But that's me, and the tree is yours after all.

awesome, going to have to pull out my carving kit.

so as this tree is due for a repot. what are your guys preference/ whats a better option? Repot now as the buds are starting to commence or repot early winter when the tree goes dormant? this is the first repot im doing on this tree since purchasing this tree almost 3 years ago. my thoughts are doing it now as buds are starting to extend but i dont have much experience with this species.
