As well as some other members here, I like Brazilian Rain Trees a lot.
But contrary to common sense, it doesn't like midday sun in the summer, but rather a shaded humid place (hot, but no direct sun).
It's called "rain tree" and not "sun tree" after all...
But the point here is: one can almost SEE IT GROWING during the grow season. I mean it, many centimeters per day, it's just amazing.
Those new twigs below were NOT there yesterday. Amazing.

I thought about a time-lapse.
But...
To record it growing in the rate it's doing now, perhaps a slow-motion camera!

Quick update:
In 6 days it is already out of control.
Same plant, from a cutting. A very young tree, but... They usually thicken up even being potted, which is not so usual.
Let's wait and see.

Can't wait for summer. We have not had sunshine for several weeks now and all tropicals inside have stopped growing. SIgh. Climate envie.

Climate envie.

I went outside with the dog just now, January 6, northern hemisphere, and two elms and the wisteria are leading out.

February will probably have below freezing days. Two years ago a hard freeze in April got a couple of trees.

A consistent climate would be nice.

Glad to be in a bid colder part then.

I have had 10-15 frost nights so far. Another 1 or 2 expected this week: Except for junipers, all my trees are well dormant. But I am tired of completely grey/white skies that have been hanging about for weeks now. Everything perpetually wet. Bluuh!

Some sun & heat would be nice. Guess I should find a plane and get to the tropics. :(

July to August will be over 90 every day, and over 100 most days. That is about 35 C. And, it may not rain much in August or September.

You might be happy to be in Amsterdam then.

My dissertation adviser is from Amsterdam. They used to skate on the canals all winter, but he says it hasn't frozen that much in a long time.

I like the heat!

Hm.. Amsterdam is some 200km away, and has a very different climate from my backyard. Litterally up to 5c difference (hotter here in summer, colder here in winter)
