Cornus Sanguinea - Red dogwood was created by leatherback

Last winter I was cleaning my garden and came across a young dogwood. Probably 2-4 years old from a bird dropping as I know of no other dogwoods nearby. In any case.. It was in a spot without a future, so I pulled it out to get shredded. THen I thought again and popped it in a pot instead:

In September the plant had grown nicely, had been trimmed and wired already too.

Great project- your trees always seem to develop fast into something that looks like a bonsai...

Good observation. What fertilizer and care schedule do you use with something like this?

That's a lot of cut paste.
(This is NOT a criticism)!
Neat, but is it necessary in every cut?
There are many that advocate for no cutpaste at all, specially in pines (as the resinous sap is enough, so they say).
Have you ever tried it, or is your climate such as fungus will get through the cut if paste is not present?
I've been using the almost liquid Japanese paste on tropicals and it works here.

Thxx. But.. Ehm.. Well you know.. I do not work on a schedule.. I mix some stuff made of fermented fish, some vegetable fertilizer, Saidun ultra and other stuff laying around. For the rest.. The right substrate  sun, water, and wiring when young. You really think my trees develop faster than that f others?

I use the cut paste more with the aim to stop cuts from drying out. I am a firm believer that the callus develops better when keeps out of the sun and moist. I do not use it with infections in mind. I have seen some comparative studies which showed that cut past reduces die-back.So I use it if I am not sure the wound will close by itself. Many of the cuts on my trees get this stuff. I go through 2 tubs of cut paste a year.

And today, with the young branches nice and red. Happy to see like this. Although it will need a few adjustments before spring, looking at the last pictures.

Summer has come and gone. Winter is on our doorstep.

Time for an update! I let the top branch shoot till about 2 weeks ago, when I trimmed it. The day after this picture I took out all the growing tips again.
