Today I was cleaning up the yard in prep of spring. I ran into many tubs and pots with trident maple seedlings from last season. As I did not have a clear purpose for them I decided to lump them into one big tub and call it the start of a forest. Not the way to start a forest. I know. Still I had fun. Lets see where this road leads..

I know there is one where Bjorn created a clump planting of seedlings, which people pointed out to me when I showed one VERY similar to what I have done, fortunately well before he made that video.

Don't tell me he also did a forest like this. Do you have a link?

I do not mind the wait. My oldest seedling project is no 9 years going, root over rock windswept taxus. About 20 trees from seed in pots, and a few hundred in growing beds, across maybe 10 species all in. Bonsai is a long term hobby.

I have decided to stop sowing seeds for a few years. I have no idea what to do with all of them!

The seeds for the trident forest came from the streets of Washington.
The maple seeds.. I think I bought them somewhere.

I can recommend going to botanical gardens as seeds start to ripen.. Not all will allow you to collect trees but..

Yep, those are pretty rare trees here in Brazil, I think I never saw those winged maple seeds... There is a few plane trees around my city (Yes, I think I can count in one hand), but they are different than acer, it's seeds looks like fuzzy balls...

But most people here in Brazil think they're the same, like "oh that tree from Canada", and you can't blame them, because there is no reference...

Brazil? Where in Brazil are you located? For the last 6 years I have been to Brazil at least twice a year for work, and just finished a 30 person Brazil - NL network meeting. You never know what little birds drop when they are allowed to fly.

I'm from the "Rio Grande do Sul" state, the further state on the south.
Have you been on the South Region? It is the Coldest Region here, but our winter is not even close to the Washington winter for example. =P

As part of getting started in this role I took a 4 week trip across Brazil to get to know the different corners and have some idea of what "lives" in the country.
