My Birthday present arrived
Flowering Brush Cherry - 3 years old.
I had to re-pot her, that is all I will do 'til spring.

very nice tree, i would try and wire the branches outwards and down a bit in spring to give it some age of a natural tree. Like to see what you do with it

New growth, that's good to hear, that means she healthy .
I would maybe even cut the middle vertical branches to promote some more outwards growth.

Does the tree look just a bit too tall for anyone else? It's a cute tree, don't get me wrong I like it. do they back bud easily? a few branches further down on the trunk would look nice.

They back bud so easily that once you start pruning you have to watch them very carefully and keep rubbing off the unwanted buds. Otherwise you will have unwanted branches all over the place.

I totally agree with pinkham. On top of that, I would consider pushing the tree for a season or two to produce as much growth along the trunk as possible, in order to add som etaper to the trunk. It is now fairly straight and -with all respect- in need of a bit more 'wow-factor'. You might be able to reach that by planting her in a bigger container and putting her outside for spring / summer, while you are moving into your new place. If you do that: Consider organizing the roots as well, as I am pretty sure the roots will be a messy clumb, unless it was grown to be bonsai..
The tree is actually a species at risk in its natyive Australia: plantnet.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/NSWfl...Syzygium~paniculatum

Sounds like a good plan -- I just got her a week ago and had to repot her. I don't want to do much more for fear of killing her.
The roots were a messy clump - I loosened them up but didn't make any cuts. I will do all that in April.
Maybe I will trim some of the center leaves. Just a few though - take it slow.
