Last year May I have the oppertunity to pull a lonicera from a garden. After multiple repottings, thinning of the number of stems, their height and getting the foliage to tone down the growth habit, this is where it has gotten to. Mei 2013 to july 2014:

Looking good - I did something similar with a Lonicera Serotina, planted 25 years ago in my garden, dug up December 2012 as it looked very poorly, thriving now in its pot. Suggest you remove any flower buds as they develop (it you aren't already) to keep the vigour for leaves & branch development

lol,

I am not allowing it to extend as far as to create flower buds, as branches get too strong (Big leaves) too quickly. Cutting back after 5 leave pairs have formed, back the first set. Roughly every 6 weeks I need to trim. Getting nice ramnification bu now. Cannot wait for winter to thin & wire.

Just realized.. On this picture it looks like there is hardly any foliage on the plant. Looking from above (Right into the chopped-of tops which have not been wored on yet.. you get a better impression og the crown starting to fill up..
