Hello Everyone :) I'm new to Bonsai and live in Connecticut, and was wondering if it is safe to prune a Bonsai in September? If so, is there a specific species that is safer and can I completely prune? Lately all I have been doing is watering and some fertilizing.

Thank you

You can prune loads of plants in september. As i doubt anyone will give you a list of all tree species in the world and let you know whether you csn prune them or not, why not tell us what you have?

Better yet, let us know why you think it should be pruned. You know, everything you do in bonsai has a reason..

I have a chinese elm and the branches are very long and the internodes are equally long.
Also, I am looking for a book that has the names and pictures of the different types of bonsai, so any recommendation s would be appreciated!

thank you :)

Are you looking for different types of trees, or for different bonsai styles?

The book is so i can learn the names of the different kinds. For instance I know what a chinese elm and a japanese maple looks like, but not sure what a black pine, white pine, etc look like. If I had a book with pictures, or a website that would help a lot! Any information would be appreciated :)

You are on such a website... check on top, under Tree species.

lol, you are right! I guess a book is what I need so when I am out looking at trees I can identify them!
Also, is there a website that teaches about the training of individual bonsai's or that give workshops on them, or should I just youtube for videos?

thank you :)

Or your smartphone? There's an app named Leafsnap that you can use to make photos of leaves and it will try and recognize the species. Doesn't tell you how to train it though.

There are several good sites about the training of specific tree species. Best is to google for 'Bonsai care guidelines' + the species name.
Here is one that has good articles:
