Firstimer needs help - Chinese Elm was created by JadeJ

Posted 6 years 7 months ago #35557
Young Chinese Elm came into my family on Mother's Day (thanks Dad)....and it has spider mites. I've been using some basic organic insecticide but they have not left my tree alone.

Is it too early to re-pot, and will that take care of the problem? Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance!

Red spider mite are not insects so insecticide will not kill them! Wipe the leaves with water and keep doing it. This species should not be inside, it is a hardy species and belongs outside.

Why do you say that they are not insects so incectscides wont work?
They are a form of bug so zap em with bug clear ultra a systemic bug killer that will work.
And i agree get your tree outdoors its not a house plant.

Spider mites are spiders, not insects. So pouson aimed at insect fysiology often does not work on spidermites.

Best way is to make sure the air is not too dry. Mites hate moisture and cannot reproduce in wet environments.

Because they are not insects.

"Mites are not actually insects, but belong to the related
class Arachnida, which also includes spiders, scorpions,
and ticks. The major morphological differences
between mites and insects are found in the number of
major body parts and the number of legs"

couldn't find the label for Bug Clear Ultra, but the a.i. acetamiprid does not list spider mites at all, just insects. So it may not work on arachnids.

not sure how they can list spider mites, look for the label on the AI and you will not see Spider Mites listed at all. I doubt this will work.
