I know on the website it recommends using a basic potting mix was hoping someone could tell me what that is. I’ve was gonna use Akadama pumice lava rock or pine bark but read somewhere that the ficus like normal soil or peat whatever that is :) that’s would be very great full of any advice

Yer it just just reccemeds one mix of akafama pumice and lava rock for deciduous trees and coniferous trees I still don’t know what a basic potting mix is as stated on the ficus care section

I read somewhere they don’t like Japanese type soils here in the uk

Actually, that IS the basic mix. Your plant is not a conifer, so you could use the other mix that is described.

Basic bonsai soil could be any type of soil, as long as it got good drainage, good water-retention and good aeration.

You can use the same soil mix for deciduous trees, for your Ficus tree.

But again, i recommend: Akadama, Pumice and pine bark.

Some people dont recommend japanese soils in areas with hard frost in winters. Because akadama and pumice breaks down.

You can use Perlite instead of akadama and pumice. About 50% perlite and 50% pine bark.

It’s specifys deciduous and coniferous mine is neither so not sure what to use
